CHOOSING THE RIGHT WINCH: VRX VS. AXON
WINCH SPECIFICATIONS: AXON VS. VRX
Whether it’s a hard-working ATV or a dune-hopping UTV, different vehicles—and different tasks—require different winches. Warn offers its powersports winches in capacities ranging from 2,500 lbs. (1134 kg) all the way up to a massive 5,500 lbs. (2495 kg), with ultra-durable steel or lightweight, easy-to-handle synthetic rope.
But no matter which winch you choose, you’ll get IP68-rated waterproofing to keep the water and elements out; all-metal construction for the ultimate in durability; a three-stage planetary gear train for smooth and reliable operation; and an easy-to-turn clutch dial based on decades of WARN 4WD hub-lock know-how.

STEEL VS. SYNTHETIC WINCH ROPE. WARN AXON and VRX winches are available with either steel rope or synthetic rope. But which one is right for you? Let’s look at some of the features and benefits of both. Steel rope is extremely durable, abrasion resistant, and is good for utility applications where the line may contact objects like stumps, rocks, and other things that rub against the rope. Of course it’s still a good choice for vehicle recovery, and has been used for decades by enthusiasts and workers alike. However, steel rope is heavier and less flexible than synthetic line. Steel rope is less expensive than synthetic rope.

Synthetic rope is strong, lightweight, easy to handle, and it’ll even float on water making it great for vehicle recovery. Synthetic rope is more prone to damage by abrasion, and requires the use of the included abrasion sleeve when the rope comes into contact with an object. Additionally, synthetic rope should be inspected regularly for ultraviolet (UV) wear and is more expensive than steel rope. However, it’s a great choice for those who are looking to keep weight down, push the limits with their vehicle, and use the winch frequently.
